The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics: A Century of Excellence
TAJIRI jewelry was worn in the image visuals for The Tokyo 2025 Deaflympics.
The Deaflympics—a portmanteau of "Deaf" and "Olympics"—is the premier international multi-sport event for deaf and hard-of-hearing athletes.
Sanctioned by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD) and held every four years, the Deaflympics represents the pinnacle of elite competition for the global Deaf community.
A Historic Milestone
First held in Paris in 1924, the Deaflympics reaches its 100th-anniversary milestone with the Tokyo 2025 Games. This marks the first time in history that Japan will host this prestigious event.
Beyond Sound: The Visual Experience
Unlike the Olympics or Paralympics, the Deaflympics is built on visual communication. In place of starting pistols or whistles, the Games utilize international sign language, start lights, and flags to ensure full information accessibility for all participants.
Eligibility & Inclusion
To compete in the Deaflympics, athletes must meet two primary criteria:
-
Hearing Loss: A hearing loss of at least 55 dB in the better ear (without the use of hearing aids or cochlear implants).
-
Affiliation: Registration with their respective National Deaf Sports Federation and fulfillment of official qualifying standards.
